Exchange Students Checklist in Fall 2024

*This checklist is for exchange students only.

Welcome to GT-Shenzhen — we are glad you have decided to join our graduate student community and wish you much success. To ensure a smooth transition to GT-Shenzhen, we recommend you complete the below checklist items by their completion dates.

How to apply for exchange to GT-Shenzhen?

  1. If you are a non-Chinese student, you will need a visa to enter mainland China. You should contact GT-Shenzhen at least 3 months prior to the start of the exchange semester indicating your desire to switch to the GT-Shenzhen for the specified semester; if you do not need a visa to enter mainland China, you can request to exchange to GT-Shenzhen with a 1 month lead time.
  2. If you are a Hong Kong resident, Macau resident, or Taiwan resident, and you do not possess a Home Return Permit or Taiwan Compatriot Permit,  you should contact GT-Shenzhen at least 3 months prior to the start of the exchange semester indicating your desire to switch to the GT-Shenzhen for the specified semester; if you have either of these permits, please contact us at least 1 month prior to the exchange.
  3. If you are a non-US citizen or non-permanent resident, it is your responsibility to check with OIE in order to determine whether you can keep the same visa when returning to the US or you will need a different visa.
  4. If you are an OMSCS program student, you must have been fully admitted to the OMSCS program before you request to exchange to GT-Shenzhen (i.e., you must have passed two OMSCS foundational courses with a grade of B or better within a year from your initial matriculation to the OMSCS program). Include your full name and GT ID# in your exchange request. We will then work with the Registrar to switch your campus code to GT-Shenzhen so you will be able to register for courses offered at the GT-Shenzhen.

*Below is for International students (excluding students from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan) only.
